Nestled along a pristine stretch of Florida’s white sand dune beaches, lies this luxury residential condominium, which redefines coastal living with its elevated landscapes and outdoor lifestyle. Site studies were conducted to analyze environmental challenges and to maximize existing site opportunities while adhering to code constraints. Despite working with a narrow lot and minimal green spaces, we transformed the site into a verdant oasis using diverse coastal resilient plantings.
The journey begins with a majestic 60’ x 40’ vertical garden, not only making a bold aesthetic statement but also offering numerous benefits. It acts as a natural insulation barrier against harsh South-Western solar gain, significantly reducing energy consumption. A lush allée of native Thatch palms and vertical vine cables adorned with fragrant Confederate Jasmine and Bridal’s Veil vines buffer the harsh building facades, fostering a deep connection to nature for all residents and visitors.
Our scope of work encompassed design and creation of a true vertical garden system similar to Partick Blanc’s approach using capillary fabric membranes with intermingled root systems to ensure longevity. On the side yard facades of the building we implemented an extensive Jakob vine cable system. By integrating the sustainable techniques, such as vertical gardens, we have created a dual-purpose solution.
Not only do these green spaces enrich city landscapes, but they also provide invaluable insulation for buildings, helping to mitigate urban heat gain. Our innovative approaches not only combat the effects of extreme heat exposure but also offer a multifaceted strategy to enhance environmental sustainability and urban livability.
