As the first China-Israel collaborative sci-tech innovation platform in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Zhuhai China-Israel International Industrial Park Accelerator serves threefold missions: ecological demonstration, industrial incubation, and international cultural exchange. Situated on a reclaimed salinized tidal flat adjacent to the ecologically sensitive area of the Pearl River Estuary, the project achieves its “zero-carbon park” vision within a 2.8-hectare high-density development framework. The landscape system innovatively integrates R&D demands of global enterprises with Lingnan regional characteristics, creating a prototype for sustainable industrial community landscapes.
One of the pivotal challenges in the landscape design involved ecological restoration and resilient landscape system construction on salinized tidal flats. MSP addressed this through creating peripheral linear rain gardens, strategically utilizing modular green spaces and large-scale permeable paving materials to effectively manage surface runoff across the site.
The second critical challenge stemmed from the requirement to develop sufficient outdoor spatial experiences for dense R&D workplaces. Targeting 32 tech enterprises with over 2,000 researchers, MSP developed a three-tiered landscape framework: The Commercial Ring, The Loop, and Central Loft Garden. This system strategically leverages all available exterior spaces – including sunken plazas, rooftops, terraces, and courtyards – to create diverse outdoor social scenarios, providing expanded spatial extensions to the high-density office complex.
The third challenge emerged from the imperative to seamlessly blend Chinese and Israeli cultural identities through landscape design. Our solution prioritized cultural and religious sensitivities by deconstructing the Star of David geometry into fundamental design motifs. This cultural translation manifests through interlocking hexagonal paving patterns, kinetic dry fountains, reflective pools, and diamond-shaped courtyard gardens, achieving layered cultural expressions where physical landscapes interact with intangible heritage.
