2026 Private Gardens / Spain / Built in 2023 /
This project represents a refined and contemporary interpretation of Mediterranean landscape design, where environmental responsibility, spatial clarity, and experiential quality are brought into balance. Designed by NÖNAM Studio and led by Miguel Ángel Ramis, the intervention transforms a complex coastal plot in Puerto, Mallorca into a cohesive and immersive residential landscape.
The brief was clear yet demanding: to create a private, exclusive outdoor environment for a permanent residence, capable of engaging with panoramic sea views while ensuring intimacy and comfort. The response avoids excess and instead relies on precision—each decision is deliberate, measured, and rooted in the logic of the site.
This project stands out for its clarity, restraint, and coherence.
It addresses key contemporary challenges—water efficiency, climate adaptation, and the integration of architecture and landscape—through precise and thoughtful solutions.
Rather than relying on spectacle, the project achieves impact through balance and intelligence. Every element contributes to a unified vision, resulting in a landscape that feels natural, inevitable, and deeply connected to its context.
The steep slope of the site becomes the primary design driver. Rather than imposing a rigid geometry, the project organizes the garden into a sequence of terraces that follow the natural topography.
This approach resolves a key tension: the need for openness without compromising privacy. Lower levels are defined by dense planting and a sense of enclosure, while upper levels progressively expand toward the horizon. The result is a landscape that feels both protected and open—a critical quality for everyday living.
The project reinterprets the Mediterranean garden through a contemporary lens, moving away from traditional ornamental compositions toward a more ecological and sensory approach.
Planting is based on drought-tolerant and locally adapted species, including olive trees, structural succulents, aromatic shrubs, and ornamental grasses. These are arranged in layered compositions that provide depth, texture, and seasonal variation.
Vegetation plays a dual role: it contributes to the visual identity of the project while acting as a spatial tool—defining boundaries, filtering views, and reinforcing privacy. The garden evolves over time, responding to light, wind, and seasonal change, ensuring a dynamic and living landscape.
Sustainability is fully integrated into the design process. The result is a landscape that performs efficiently over time, reducing maintenance demands while maintaining a high level of aesthetic quality.
A sculptural tree-like structure acts as a landmark, reinterpreting natural forms through a contemporary language. It establishes a dialogue between art, architecture, and landscape.
A small integrated water feature adds an acoustic dimension, enhancing the sense of calm and reinforcing the sensory experience.
The rooftop garden is conceived as an extension of the landscape, with a more sculptural and controlled character.
Planting is organized within defined geometries, often using corten steel planters that structure the space. Xerophytic species dominate, reinforcing the project’s environmental logic.
The design carefully frames views toward the sea, ensuring the horizon remains the focal point. At night, a refined lighting strategy transforms the space into an intimate and atmospheric environment.
The material palette is restrained and coherent, combining light-toned stone surfaces with corten steel elements. These materials provide durability, reduce heat absorption, and reinforce the Mediterranean character of the project.
Construction detailing is precise and carefully resolved. Transitions between materials are seamless, and the integration between built and planted elements is fluid. This level of craftsmanship ensures a clean and unified spatial reading.
The space is designed for daily use, offering multiple environments for relaxation, contemplation, and social interaction. Its durability and low maintenance requirements ensure long-term performance.
This garden is a carefully calibrated system where architecture, landscape, and environment operate as one. It creates a complete experience—sensory, spatial, and ecological—tailored to contemporary living.
