Mionetto was founded in 1887 out of a love and passion for the land and for the work in the cellar by master winemaker Francesco Mionetto, the family’s forefather. It is a leading exponent of the Prosecco region, having become one of the most representative wineries on the international scene.

The winery is situated on the hillsides of Valdobbiadene, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the topography of the land has become a key asset in developing not merely a building but a ‘territorial system’, harmoniously integrating the environmental characteristics of the surrounding landscape. The positive interaction between people and the environment has created a unique cultural landscape.
The topography of the land has facilitated the development of a project comprising terraces and layers, allowing the taller sections of the winery to be concealed at the lowest level and the noisiest activities to be housed in underground spaces with enhanced sound insulation, thereby reducing the impact of the entire production chain. These different levels result in spaces characterised by vegetation and intensive green roofs.
The project has given the winery a new lease of life, whilst preserving its original character.
The green roof, as well as enhancing the usability of the spaces, contributes to passive cooling in summer, energy savings and improved rainwater runoff in the event of sudden and extreme rainfall. It is a solution for increasing and protecting the biodiversity of flora and fauna and enhances the aesthetic value of the environment, the building and the city itself.
This project transforms a concrete-clad wine cellar into a complex system of green roofs, tree and shrub vegetation, enhancing and expanding the urban greenery and biodiversity of the Treviso hills. Its strength lies in the conversion of existing spaces into a multi-level green structure designed to evolve over time. A microcosm that acts as a transition zone between ecosystems (hillside and vineyard), a border area and a meeting point that connects different environments. A blend of ecological and practical considerations.

The landscape project is divided into two distinct areas:

“Piazza Giardino”
Is placed at ground level (0.00 metres), where the Wine Shop is located and the entrance from the street is situated. Given the site’s historical character, the aim was to recreate the typical atmosphere of the courtyards found in Venetian villas: spaces divided and defined by formal borders of evergreen shrubs, evoking the Renaissance garden within a contemporary setting. The typical Buxus sempervirens hedges have been replaced with Pittosporum tobira ‘Nanum’ and Myrtus communis ‘Microphyilla’ (species that are more resilient and resistant to drought and pest attacks), combined with perennial flowers offering a staggered flowering schedule. The large trees, typical of Italy and the potential vegetation of oak-hornbeam forests like Carpinus betulus with other like Quercus ilex and Celtis australis cast their shade over the passageways and crossings of the square.

“Terrace”
Is located at the rear of the building, where the suspended lawn has made it possible to bridge a significant height difference of approximately 60 cm caused by the pre-existing flat roof of the palletising facility below. This area features continuous drainage technology, which has enabled the management of rainwater runoff from the flat roof to be completely independent of the choices regarding the roof’s upper finish. Side panels have been installed to act as a perimeter parapet, ensuring safe use of the entire panoramic terrace overlooking the production area.
Many walls are covered in climbing plants such as Parthenocissus tricuspidata, Hedera spp. and Ficus repens, evoking the courtyards of days gone by. These 2,000 square metres of green walls help to soften the visual impact of the entire industrial complex.
