Shanghai International Cruise Tourism Resort Urban Design and Landscape Improvement by Shanghai AMJ architecture and urban planning Co., Ltd

Shanghai International Cruise Tourism Resort, located in Wusongkou, is not only Asia’s premier cruise ship homeport, but also the northern entrance to Shanghai. For this enhancement, we have taken a leisure cycling path of about 6 kilometers as the core, connecting several nodes such as Long Beach Concert Hall, Riverside Park, Sea World and Paotaiwan Wetland Park. Focusing on optimizing the landscape environment of the shoreline, excavating the connotation of the sea culture theme, introducing the theme IP image of the resort, shaping a variety of cultural and tourism nodes, and perfecting the services and facilities, to create Shanghai’s most beautiful riverfront Yangtze River shoreline, the international new business card of the riverfront.

I. Open the trail breaks, raise the elevation of the trail, and shape the place to look at the sea.

Before the renovation, Baoshan Riverside Trail is mainly for municipal functions, lack of open space rich in cultural flavor and a viewing platform for people to rest. Along the flood control wall and dense vegetation to a certain extent blocked people’s line of sight, so that people can not feel the unique charm of the riverside river and the sea. In order to meet the multifunctional needs of tourists, this enhancement will be the first level of the waterfront level platform from a single flood control function upgraded to the wave garden for public rest and recreation. Along the flood control wall 6-7M wide secondary flood control channel upgraded to “three roads in one” cycling road, running road, strolling road, realize the river road through. At the same time, the design of the river walkway elevation overall elevation, the current road height difference is large at the gentle slope treatment, enhance the comfort of riding and strolling, to realize the real “return to the shore and the people”. In addition, the design also reduces the height of grass slopes, combined with the two public buildings along the line of the second-floor platform to shape the visual corridor for viewing, to create a multi-functional rest platform for viewing the river.

II. Build the theme color, design the theme IP, enhance the theme atmosphere of the resort area

The project quickly shapes the regional landscape environment with unique charm through distinctive theme colors and vivid IP images. The design adopts the theme color system of Jianghai blue to shape the unique spatial color atmosphere of the resort. At the same time, in order to further enrich the brand image of the resort, a group of cute little porpoises named “Abao Family” was innovatively designed as the theme IP, and in the overall shoreline design, the planning and design incorporated the image of “Abao Family” into every corner of the resort. In the overall shoreline design, the planning design integrates the image of the “ Abao family” into every corner of the resort. From urban furniture to signage, from ground pavement to building facades, the application of these thematic IP not only enhances the fun and interactivity of the space, but also allows visitors to feel the resort’s creativity and dedication in every detail, enhancing the resort’s thematic atmosphere.

III. Improve the function and service supporting, shaping the theme of net red node

In order to meet the needs of neighboring residents and tourists, this enhancement relies on the current spatial environment of the riverfront and combines functional themes to add a number of stations and open spaces. The design replaces and upgrades seats, garbage cans, signs, railings, lights, etc., and refurbishes the platforms, trestles, and children’s activity sites on site to make the supporting facilities more complete and comfortable. Meanwhile, it also combines the theme of love sworn by the sea, the theme of Journey to the West and the theme of the cruise port to shape a number of distinctive nodes, enriching the landscape of the riverfront shoreline.

View 1: Cruise ship lighthouse

Upgrade the existing lighthouse with art and add public art installations around it. Add colorful clouds and gradient earth art paintings of river and sea blue on the ground.

View 2: Ocean of Love

The design combines the existing iron gates, remodeling and upgrading the installation art gates with the theme of love. Remove the walls along the walkway, remodel and upgrade the building facade as a whole to create a shared and open garden landscape. Here, the river and the sea become the most romantic background, providing a perfect place for lovers to make a love pact like a sea vow.

View 3: Sunrise at Hu Embankment

With the theme of sea and sky, expand the entrance space to form a public square with signage. Combined with the space site, add special resort signage, ground sun signs, art enclosure flower boxes, etc. to guide the important cultural and tourism nodes in the surrounding area, and create the entrance node on the north side of the Riverside Park.

Scene 4: Haitianxuri

Combined with the optimization of the internal function of the building and the elevation, combing the spatial landscape along the route to create a service station with matching functions.

Scene 5: Riverside Station

Upgrading and remodeling design for the building and surrounding environment of the Riverside Station, adding staggered landscape walls and elevated public activity platforms in the green space along the river at the station, combining them with the existing trees to create a rich and interesting landscape rest space, and at the same time, arranging long seats interspersed with the platforms to enrich the spatial relationship.

Scene 6: Yixian Yayuan

Optimize the façade of the existing building, reduce the elevation of the top of the green slope, create a viewing platform at the top of the slope that can provide a variety of activities (such as coffee breaks, small theater facing the river, etc.), the platform is connected to the riverside walkway and the second floor platform of the building, combing the vegetation on the green slope, retaining the large trees on the site while relocating redundant tree species, shaping the simple and atmospheric landscape along the river.

View 7: Fisherman’s Harbor

Sort out the regional space site, locally reduce the height difference of the walkway, optimize the experience of the walkway. Add a riverfront service station and a garden pendulum to meet the multifunctional needs of visitors.

View 8: City Bar

In order to meet the needs of tourists, a total length of about 100 meters of city bar is set up by combining the existing plastic wood board pavement with the leisure cycling trail. Here, people can sit down, enjoy the breeze of the river, look at the cruise port across the river, and feel the unique charm of the resort.
