Social Farm Korenika – A Nature-Based Park for the Future

A project that emphasizes nature-based solution, sustainable, social, and spiritual aspects of space, as well as functionality through the inclusion of useful native plants.
Social Farm Korenika, located in the heart of the Goričko Landscape Park, creates a space with its vision of holistic nature-based design, where landscape architecture, ecology, spiritual harmony, and inclusive social use of space intertwine.
The landscape design is based on the principle of “landscape within a landscape.” Native plants of Goričko, domesticated garden plants, and natural materials form the base of a design that emphasizes sustainable development, educational roles, and the interweaving of nature with humans. The central element of the park is the semi flower-meditation garden, where thematic circles follow the principle of the four elements of life—fire, water, earth, and air. Each circle is designed to reflect the quality of the element it represents, both in the design of the space and in the choice of materials and plants. This creates a space for relaxation, play, exploration, and spiritual connection.

Key innovations of the project:
Nature-based design and ecological sustainability – use of native plants, nature-based plantings, preservation of cultural landscapes, and establishment of biodiversity habitats.
Inclusive accessibility and adaptability – communication paths made from natural local materials (brick, wood, wood chips) provide access for everyone, including people with mobility impairments.
Multifunctionality – the space enables various activities: from cultural events, meditation meetings, sensory experiences, to practical use and education about plants.
Connection between nature and the spiritual dimension of space – the park serves as an energy portal, enabling contact with natural forces and harmonizing living.
Revival and preservation of traditional Slovenian garden plants – introduction of forgotten house flowers that preserve cultural heritage and support sustainable gardening approaches which are partialy eatable and usable for drying (preparation of spices, teas, tinctures, juices).

In designing the space, the team integrated the planting of individual trees, flowering shrubs, perennials from wild meadows, and house gardens, resulting in a landscape that is both aesthetic and functional. These plants serve not only as visual highlights but are also cultivated for practical purposes, including aromatherapy and cooking.
Pathways connect the various parts of the estate, weaving together intimate corners for reflection and a deeper connection with nature. The revitalized orchard, once overgrown, now breathes new life into the space, its most vital trees and shrubs thriving in a renewed arrangement. This orchard merges seamlessly with the central flower meditation garden, where native perennials and grasses echo the rhythms of nature and encourage deep focus.
The entire project is conceived as a living landscape, where natural elements flow into one another, inviting visitors into a state of inner calm and harmony. The design is organized around four thematic circles, inspired by the elements-fire, water, earth, and air-each expressed through specific materials, plants, and atmospheres that guide visitors through a journey of natural balance.
Here, plants are more than decorative; they are subtle transmitters of the space’s energy, fostering gentle transitions, enhancing sensory perception, and deepening the meditative experience. The landscape thus becomes not just functional, but a space that invites observation, presence, and mindful breathing.
Social Farm Korenika demonstrates that a nature-based, sustainable, and socially inclusive landscape can serve as more than just a beautiful setting-it becomes a living classroom, a regenerative refuge, and an ecological corridor that supports biodiversity. Central to this vision is the flower meditation park, which anchors the farm’s activities. The farm encompasses food and herb cultivation, therapeutic animal care, and a small shop, all supported by the active involvement of people from socially disadvantaged and vulnerable groups, including individuals with disabilities. Their participation, from the project’s conception to its realization, ensures that the park is nurtured with exceptional care and dedication, embodying the principles of social inclusion and intergenerational cooperation at every level.

Park Korenika – where past, present, and future intertwine in the rhythm of nature.
