It all began with one book, “Atlas of Wonders of the World,” and a vision of a scool girl who asked the mayor of Modiin, Israel on a random meeting, to create a park dedicated to the wonders of the world. As we received the concept, our challenge was to translate the vision into reality and add all kind of playground equipment to it, in order to create a unique and spectacular park.
The park answers an educational need of getting to know the wonders of the world and the need for a unique playground that attracts children from all over the city with the bonus of having an artistic and colorful play and learning experience.
The main challenge was to create sculptures that will resemble the original wonders of the world and also comply with the playground standards and be safe to children playing them.
We created 4 different areas, each with a world wonder: The Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China, the Sculptures of the Moai in Easter islands and Stonehenge of England. In each area there is a different kind of activity that we tried to match to the subject. In the Maoi heads, we planted a system of tubes with earpieces to communicate through the 3 heads. In the Pyramids the children crawl in order to get to the slide.
We also created an online app for the park with a unique game dedicated to fun and knowledge of the wonders of the world.
The landscape architect who planned the park with us was Dorit Margalit. The park will receive natural shading by trees located in the play areas. The sculptures are made of reinforced concrete.
