The entire open space configuration and landscape architectural design of XO Cape Arnna Hotel has been developed through a holistic approach in which architectural and landscape decisions were conceived simultaneously from the earliest stages of the project. Rather than treating landscape as an applied layer, the project establishes a continuous spatial system where built form, open space and user experience are inseparable.
Located along the Fethiye coastline, the project brings together the natural character of the Mediterranean geography, traces of the historical Luwian culture and a contemporary Italian aesthetic sensibility to create a multi layered outdoor environment shaped by climate, topography and user flows. Natural stone pathways, aromatic gardens, sunken seating areas and coastal structures reinforce a strong sense of belonging between the user and the landscape.
At the masterplan scale, the project is structured around a primary circulation spine that operates as both an orienting device and a spatial narrative. Inspired by Mediterranean path cultures, this axis is articulated as a linear olive grove corridor, guiding movement across the site while establishing visual continuity. Accommodation units are positioned along this spine, directing views and circulation toward the shoreline, while planted areas are integrated into a permeable landscape framework. Variations in level are resolved through ramps, terraces and stepped transitions, ensuring accessibility while maintaining spatial fluidity.
The project is defined by a series of micro landscapes, each developed with its own spatial character, planting strategy and material articulation. Rather than repeating a singular landscape language, the site evolves through differentiated zones where shade, texture, density and program shift according to use. Visitors experience the hotel as a sequence of interconnected yet distinct atmospheres.
Water elements play a central role in shaping the social life of the project. Pool areas are conceived not only as recreational surfaces but as social condensers where movement and gathering intersect. Jacuzzi seating, a swim up bar, submerged lounge platforms and sunbathing pools are integrated into a continuous water landscape. Transparent acrylic pool walls create visual permeability, while overflow edges reinforce a strong infinity effect. Stepped entries and ramped access ensure inclusivity, while the separation of family and adult pools allows for differentiated social atmospheres.
Planting design operates as one of the primary spatial generators of the project. Species selected according to climatic adaptability and functional performance are organized in layered compositions throughout the site. Shade providing trees, aromatic shrubs, groundcovers and seasonal species support microclimatic comfort and sensory diversity. Planting is approached not as decoration but as a living system that defines space and guides movement.
Another significant layer of the design is the lightweight structure system distributed throughout the site. Snack bars, pavilion structures and open air facilities are designed as independent architectural elements that strengthen the identity of their surroundings. Their dynamic roof geometries respond to both topography and program, enriching the spatial composition through a rhythm of shaded environments.
Lighting design was approached through a low intensity and controlled language, avoiding harsh fixtures and visual pollution. Lighting elements are primarily directed toward the ground and circulation surfaces, allowing the landscape to coexist with darkness and creating a calmer nighttime atmosphere.
Material selection further reinforces the contextual approach of the project. Natural stone surfaces, gravel textures and carefully detailed transitions between hardscape and planted areas contribute to a tactile and durable environment aligned with the coastal setting.
Ultimately, XO Cape Arnna extends beyond the definition of a conventional hospitality project. It operates as a layered outdoor environment that establishes an ongoing dialogue between architecture, landscape and the Mediterranean context.
