It is an innovative, energy-efficient project, first two-story kindergarten in Latvia, built entirely of wood.
The landscape for the harmonious development of children provides an opportunity to feel the world around them, using not only the five classical senses, but also the sixth, undervalued sense – balance. The territory has been designed, dedicating the maximum amount of space to greenery and children’s activity areas and providing hard surfaces only in functionally necessary places. Natural materials are used in the playgrounds, creating a suitable and healthy environment for children and planning the kindergarten in such a way that every student feels at home there.

During the construction process, substantial boulders were discovered, which have found their place in children’s playgrounds and greenery. Among other things, the cut-down trees have been given additional value in landscape design – they have remained in the outdoor space as play and design elements. The territory of the Salaspils Seventh Kindergarten is divided into several functional spaces, taking into account the functions of the educational institution and access to it: a representative and front yard, a parking lot, a sports room, a hard surface area with plant boxes and game elements in the pavement, as well as four thematic recreational gardens – a mountain, valley, meadow and forest garden – with various children’s playgrounds and multifunctional developmental elements, as well as sheds for games, storage of toys and sports equipment.

Sustainable rainwater solutions have been integrated into the area – a rain garden/infiltration bio-cover along the kindergarten territory opposite the designed parking lots with diverse plantings of perennials and shrubs with a deep root system, suitable for changing hydrological situations – increased humidity or longer periods of drought.
