LUXERIVER is located in the Yuelai area of Chongqing New District, by the Jialing River. Relying on Chongqing’s unique mountainous landscape, the project’s overall planning scope of 3,500 mu, more than 60% of the land are ecological landscape space, half park, half residential. The SHADOW CREEK is only a part of the residential units are presented.
The project is built on a hillside with a height difference of about 40 meters from south to north, typical of Chongqing’s mountainous terrain. The lowest point on the south side is connected to the park entrance (under construction), overlooking the park and the Jialing River. The buildings are arranged on four levels of terraces from high to low, with a maximum height difference of 21m in the central terrace, and the site has an inverted triangular profile, with a north-south oriented natural river valley bisecting the site and isolating the connection between the clusters.
Topography is the foundation of landscape, and the unique topography is a challenge for landscape design. A meandering river is not uncommon in Chongqing, and it is rare to find a river side where native nature and architecture are attached to each other. The designers wanted to preserve the project’s original rocky, steep and other mountainous features. Between the four levels of terraces of the building, the landscape was designed with four elevators and four flying bridges to solve the problem of barrier-free pedestrian access to all corners of the cluster. Utilizing the height difference, a three-dimensional atrium space with functions of sculptural art, landscape viewing and children’s play is created. On this basis, a “forest in the valley” is placed in the gap between the original ecological landscape with a height difference of 40 meters and the undulating buildings, taking advantage of the scenery of the park’s more than 100 acres of forest park to slowly infiltrate the park into the residential area.
