With Native people as stewards of Oregon lands since time immemorial, Nike’s 400-acre World Headquarters, once a pastoral farmstead, has been reimagined as a nature-immersive, innovative campus rooted in environmental consciousness and cultural resonance. The transformation reflects Nike’s enduring commitment and legacy to sport, equity, and stewardship, evolving from a collection of office buildings into a cohesive, connected landscape that celebrates movement, performance, and place.
Guided by a design ethos that honors legacy while propelling progress, the campus is both a tribute and a catalyst. It recognizes the icons who shaped the brand, the athletes who inspire the world, and the stories that fuel collective ambition. Through robust green infrastructure, all-season fitness amenities, and a network of scenic outdoor destinations, the landscape fosters a culture of perseverance, inclusivity, and innovation.
Placemaking elements across the campus elevate Nike’s greatest game-changers. Serena Williams’ presence resonates through gardens and plazas that honor her cultural impact and achievements. LeBron James is celebrated through a dynamic plaza and ramp sequence, where sculptural features and gathering spaces invite reflection on leadership and imagination. At the heart of the campus, the Shoe Dog Bridge, an emblem of motion, connection, and legacy, spans Cedar Mill Creek, stitching together past and future while framing one of the site’s vital wetland systems.
Entry sequences and gathering spaces recognize pioneers who helped define Nike’s values. The Seb Coe Fountain and Plaza celebrate the spirit of track and field, while spaces dedicated to Joan Benoit Samuelson and Ken Griffey Jr. ground Olympic and baseball legacies within everyday experience. These environments transform circulation into ceremony, embedding inspiration into the rhythms of daily life.
At the intersection of built and natural systems, the campus redefines the contemporary workplace. Seventy acres of open space support a restorative, resilient environment where indoor and outdoor experiences blur. Trails weave through forested groves, water features offer moments of pause, and iconic bridges and roof terraces frame views of sky, land, and water. The result is an immersive landscape that invites gathering, reflection, and play: equally peaceful and exhilarating.
Performance and sustainability are deeply integrated. Campus-wide strategies, including consolidated parking, trail-to-transit connections, dedicated bike networks, and on-demand mobility systems, prioritize accessibility and low-impact movement. Tree relocation programs, drought-tolerant planting, and advanced water management systems, including one of North America’s largest eco-machines, position the campus as a leader in climate adaptation and ecological design.
Whether it is basketball or tennis courts, yoga nooks or running trails, iconic bridges or beloved roof terraces and pavilions, PLACE created an invigorating sense of place for employees and visitors to gather, obsess, and dream of the future, enjoying a welcoming and verdant campus. The campus reflects Nike’s global, multicultural identity, with spaces such as the BeTRUE Torii Gates offering moments of reflection and solidarity, celebrating the diversity of Nike’s global community while reinforcing shared values. Across the campus, design becomes a medium for storytelling—where culture, sport, and landscape intersect to cultivate belonging.
The campus romance is in the immersive human experience of the sky, forest, land, and water – traversing Nike’s past, present, and future. Inspired by the idea that athleticism and fitness can be the setting for radical empathy and community building, the campus is a place for celebration, inclusivity, and innovation. It is a living system where athleticism becomes a framework for empathy, and where design fosters connection across cultures, disciplines, and environments. Iconic yet grounded, the reimagined Nike World Headquarters stands as a model for how landscape can shape not only a workplace, but a future—one driven by innovation, stewardship, and the enduring power of sport.
