Redevelopment of the Promenade de la Liberté
Respectful of the site’s curved shape, the spatial composition takes advantage of the east-west elongation of the urban form and seeks to unite the Croisette, the new esplanade, and the old town through the unity and strength of its design.
The site’s depth is revealed by a succession of structuring lines that stretch from east to west in a taut arc pattern, echoing the built curve of the urban facade. These taut arcs, which will sometimes take the form of a pedestrian walkway, a cycle path, a row of trees, or a bus lane, restore overall coherence to the site: the emergence of a large Mediterranean esplanade, shaped like a vast “urban living room” where the city is showcased, combines the site’s components as a unified whole, while offering a diversity of uses and spaces.
Like staples between the city and the sea, wide physical and visual pathways dedicated to pedestrians stretch transversely from north to south across the esplanade, playing with the arched design. These wide, transverse walkways, lined with rows of potted citrus trees, feature fountains and canals, evoking the atmosphere of typical Mediterranean gardens at the heart of the esplanade. The pedestrianization of Rue Félix Faure is also a key element of the project.
The project in brief :
– Planting of 104 plane trees
– Planting of groves of flowering shrubs
– Planting of 56 potted citrus trees
– Stone paving, stone-effect concrete
– Pond, fountains, canals, misting system
– Event esplanade
